Fun was had by all. Team Ham Candy (the name came from a bad French translation of hambone to jambon bone) had a record-setting 2nd game. There were a lot of high-fives and victory dances. Maybe a few too many high fives. About halfway through the 2nd game, I had a sweet streak of completing frames. After I came back down to my usual 7s and 8s, I realized that my left shoulder was killing me. I'm right-handed, so it was not from the actual act of bowling. I was injured by all the jubilant high-fives... I think I strained my rotator cuff.

As a secondary injury note, Eric has a big ol' blister on his thumb from the bowling ball. I did not remember bowling being so dangerous.

The Great Green Bag Experiment

I'm not often taken by the TV ads trying to sell miracle products, but I was intrigued when I saw an ad for Debbie Meyer's "Green Bags." These magic bags absorb the ethylene gas that is given off by rotting produce, and keeps fruits and veggies from going bad as quickly. As someone who buys a lot of produce, and then throws it away when it goes bad, I was interested. I was also drawn in by the highly technical animation of the ethylene gas coming off the produce on the infomercial (see link above to see said infomercial). So, I rushed out to BB&B, my favorite as-seen-on-TV product supplier, and put down $9.99 for 20 of my very own green bags.

After a few weeks of the bags sitting on the floor of Eric's car, I rediscovered them. The experiments then began.* Test subject number one: bunch of bananas. Result: Just like the commercial, no bag=brown bananas, bag=yellow bananas after one week. Test subject number two: mushrooms. Notoriously slimy within days of buying them, I still have the green bag ones over a week later with no slime! I'm a green bag believer. Go buy some now!

*This would make an excellent science fair project. I think I was inspired by a recent Mr. Wizard marathon at the Symms'.

Naber anti-Nader

Eric pointed this out to me this morning, and it finally made me angry enough to post again:

http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/23319781 (HOT link.... ow!)

Really?

How much do you suppose the Republican party is paying him? Not off to the best start on this blog thing. I'm going to blame this one on Eric. He has been glued to the laptop for the past several days... first researching what Steve Jobs was going to announce, then watching and re-watching the State of the Apple, then reading other people's opinions on what he announced. I can't stand listening to Mr. Jobs. I think that he fancies himself a computer god reigning over the Mac-Cult (The Macbook Pro might just censor this as I type, so I'm not sure if this will show up or not). I think Eric wants to join the Mac-Cult, but they will not let him in until he gets his iPhone. I'm not sure how many times per day Eric mentions the iPhone's awesomeness, but it is somewhere in the dozens. The man loves his technology (and his Steve Jobs).

Eric's walktastic

I'm going to use my new blog to give a shout out to jivinflava. Eric and I watched the first hour thinking it was only an hour long show, then subsequently flipped out (ninja style) when we found out that there was a bonus hour in the season premier. Awesome. I have to say that I was pleasantly surprised by how well they have recreated the original show... from the lame hosts, to the scripted contestant interviews, tight outfits, small hyped up audience in an old warehouse, and, of course, the events. Here is my best and worst of the new AG (in my opinion):

Best new gladiator: Hellga. Hands down.
Worst new gladiator: Mayhem. Can he say more stereotypical cliches? "This my my house dawg!" Runner up: Toa. He wears a skirt.
Best event (old or new show): Assault.
Lamest event: None.
